Guide Falls, Tasmania

December 20, 2010

While heading South towards Cradle Mountain we stopped in at Guide Falls which isn’t far out from the town of Burnie. The light wasn’t great as the sky was overcast and it was getting late in the day. However, we did manage to get a few good long exposures of the waterfalls.

Willow Court Asylum Part 2

December 13, 2010

More photos from my recent trip to Willow Court Asylum in Tasmania. Unfortunately they’re quite grainy as a result of poor lighting within the corridors, athough I think it adds some character to the shots.

Willow Court Asylum

December 7, 2010

Before heading to Tasmania we had been told by a few people to check out an old abandoned mental asylum in New Norfolk. Being a huge fan of urban exploration I couldn’t resist having a quick look, so we deviated from our original route to check it out.

The Willow Court Asylum was built in 1830 and closed in 2000. It was Australia’s oldest mental hospital and is now said to be one of the most haunted buildings in Australia.

Arriving at the front gates we were surprised to see how open the property was. There were no barbed wire fences, security guards or even a Keep Out sign which you would normally see at an abandoned building.

Here’s a look from outside, in the main front yard.

The main entrance to a 2 story building at the front of the complex.

We walked through the entrance, up a flight of stairs and arrived in this large room with smaller rooms attached to it.

One of my favourite shots from the day. I was glad they left some of the furniture there.

A bathroom upstairs.

I’ve got a lot more photos from the complex to post, so keep checking back if you’re interested!

I’ve just arrived home from a week long camping/photography trip to Tasmania, Australia. Although the weather wasn’t great, we did manage to get some great seascapes and even found some old factories and power stations to photograph.

I have roughly 1300 photos to sort and process, so I’ll post the photos up slowly over the next few weeks.

First up, a few photos from an old boat shed near Swansea on the East coast. We had been driving through farm land all day getting frustrated at the lack of interesting scenery, until the highway finally opened up at this awesome beach front location. There was even a few seagulls kind enough to hover over the shed for a few shots.
