A few shots of Mt Cook taken during my 12 day trip to New Zealand. I’ll post more photos of the trip in the coming days.

I recently picked up copy of Graeme Barrow’s excellent guide book, Exploring Namadgi and Tidbinbilla. While flicking through the pages I stumbled across Smokers Trail, a 10km walk with the possibility of finding an old plane crash wreckage not far off the beaten track. Perfect!

Not more than 5 minutes into the walk the trail turned to snow, a surprise considering I was only 30 minutes out of Canberra. Nevertheless, I continued down the trail determined to find the elusive plane wreckage.

Fallen trees were scattered along the walk as a result of the recent blizzards crossing the region.

The snow stopped very suddenly at this point…

I reached the area where I knew the plane wreckage was and left the trail to make my way through the thick bush. Unfortunately the bush was a lot thicker than I expected, and I quickly found myself running out of sunlight with no sign of the wreckage.

Not wanting to spend a night in the Namadgi, I made the decision to call it quits and try another day. My sources tell me I wasn’t far off the wreckage, so I’ll be making another attempt within the next few weeks.

Friday 11th to Sunday 13th was the weekend of the annual Canberra Multicultural festival, a great event to taste exotic food and watch performers from around the world.  Around 110,000 people attended the festival over the 3 days, making 2011 the most successful year in it’s history.

We spent Saturday afternoon walking through the crowds and checking out all the different food and drinks on offer.

After deciding on some traditional Russian and Indian food with Norwegian beer, we positioned ourselves in front of the main stage hoping to get some interesting photos of the performances.

The Dutch Pancakes were obviously a big hit.

This guy didn’t appear to be enjoying himself…

$5 for a plate of five kinds of curry, you can’t go wrong.

The Brazillian Dancers were amazing to watch, but very hard to photograph as they move so fast! I didn’t get as many usable photos from their show as I had hoped to.

The lighting was a bit boring inside this tent, so I decided to make these photos B&W. I think they turned out really well.

I took around 500 photos at the event, so there’s still a lot more to post in the coming weeks!

For something a little different this week I thought I would showcase a new site I’ve recently launched for Botanica Landscapes, a local Canberra landscaping company.

I’ve posted logo concepts and photos for this project previously which you can view here and here.

The site’s main goal is to highlight the landscaping transformations that took place through rich and captivating photography. Hopefully I’ve achieved this with my photos!
